Bing Crosby was too much is own man, that he was seldom asked to play a historical personage. So no one was surprised when the 19th-century minstrel man Dan Emmett turned out to look, sound and behave pretty much like Bing Crosby. Oddly enough the hit of the show was Lynne Overman and Eddie Foy Jr. singing "Laughing Tony".
