This "Big Little Book" written by George S. Elrick sold for just 39 cents when it was published by Whitman in 1967. This was one of three "U.N.C.L.E." books specifically written for children, but it’s smaller and simpler than the other two – "The Affair of the Gunrunner’s Gold" and "The Gentle Saboteur." This book also has comic book-type illustrations in full color, whereas the other two have black & white illustrations. Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin are in Calcutta, India where they successfully locate and destroy a T.H.R.U.S.H. plot to saturate the world with bubonic plague carried by mice and fleas. The rodents and insects are frozen alive aboard a nuclear submarine situated at the bottom of Calcutta harbor. T.H.R.U.S.H. agents pose as a doctor in a Calcutta hospital and as a mute taxicab driver. One other U.N.C.L.E. agent is injected with the plague and dies before Napoleon can save him. Napoleon himself is caught and injected with the same plague, but saved by Illya before it overtakes him. This book is a must for any "Fans from U.N.C.L.E." who’re looking for memorabilia like books, DVDs or die-cast toy cars.
